Drugs in the workplace cost companies and employers millions of pounds each year in losses in productivity, workers compensation claims, liability cases and profits.

Companies that are encountering low morale, increased theft, increased absenteeism, a decrease in productivity and high levels of work related injuries may be experiencing drug use within the workplace.

An independent study found that 47% of work related injuries were directly related to drug abuse.

It is noted that drug users are absent from work 16 times more often, have an accident rate 4 times greater than normal, use over 33% more sickness benefits and file 5 times more compensation claims.

Other places that are equally experiencing illegal drug use are locations such as schools, night clubs and even at home.

Within our schools, the vast majority of students are aware of drug misuse and don’t want these problems within their learning environment. Drug use within the school environment results in an increase in crime and a lowering of overall student performance.

Other signs of drug use are slurred speech, theft, depression, apathy, reckless behaviour, no concerns about the future to name just a few.

Using drugs within the school environment often results in the drugs being used at home. Many children are unaware of the harm they can cause themselves and others through drug misuse. It’s important and imperative to address the problem at the first sign.
